2011, Alter-native Signs

This exhibition is comprised of sculptural weathervanes and “altered-sign” paintings made with re-cycled street and traffic signs salvaged from the Scottsdale Transportation Department. The iconic folk art style of the forms and imagery touch on imagination and social dexterity as a means of crossing boundaries. Nelson conjures  a curious array of signs, signals—shapes and words that reference the deep multi-culturalism that dominates the American experience.
